چکیده

The publisher regrets that in the published version of the above article there is a mismatch between the symbols described in the text and the symbols in Fig. 9B and Fig. 9D. The filled circles in the figures represent the adapted case (5 second time window) and the open circles represent the unadapted case (2 second time window). This is correctly labelled in the figure legend of Fig. 9 but is incorrect in the text. The publisher apologises to the authors and readers of the journal for any inconvenience caused.

Characterising temporal delay filters in biological motion detectors

Motion detection requires the comparison of spatially and temporally displaced samples of the image. Here, we discuss the problems associated with measuring the delay between spatially displaced signals within biological motion detectors. Data are presented from direction-selective neurons in the nucleus of the optic tract of the wallaby, Macropus eugenii. Their motion responses depend on stimu...

A Model of Temporal Adaptation in Fly Motion Vision

A computational model is proposed to account for the adaptive properties of the fly motion system. The response properties of motion-sensitive neurons in the fly are modelled using an underdamped adaptive scheme to adjust the time constants of delay filters in an array of Reichardt detectors. It is shown that the increase in both temporal resolution and sensitivity to velocity change observed f...

Adaptation and the temporal delay filter of fly motion detectors

Recent accounts attribute motion adaptation to a shortening of the delay filter in elementary motion detectors (EMDs). Using computer modelling and recordings from HS neurons in the drone-fly Eristalis tenax, we present evidence that challenges this theory. (i) Previous evidence for a change in the delay filter comes from 'image step' (or 'velocity impulse') experiments. We note a large discrep...

Fundamental mechanisms of visual motion detection: models, cells and functions.

Taking a comparative approach, data from a range of visual species are discussed in the context of ideas about mechanisms of motion detection. The cellular basis of motion detection in the vertebrate retina, sub-cortical structures and visual cortex is reviewed alongside that of the insect optic lobes. Special care is taken to relate concepts from theoretical models to the neural circuitry in b...
